From the United Arab Emirates to the United Kingdom, the consumer perspective has grown increasingly important to ensuring effective healthcare around the world in recent years. In October 2014 Rabin Martin, with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, hosted a roundtable of 13 experts on consumer engagement during the World Health Summit in Berlin, Germany to explore ways that other countries have successfully integrated the consumer voice into health systems. “Consumer Power to Build Better Health Systems” synthesizes the findings of that roundtable, highlights successful efforts from around the world and recommends strategies to incorporate the consumer perspective into institutional decision-making, care design and delivery, health outcomes measurement, digital networks and data use in the US.
