In 2010 the UN Foundation, on behalf of the United Nations Secretary-General, retained Rabin Martin to design and implement a global strategy and effort to meet health development goals for women and children. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, along with global leaders from a wide range of sectors, joined in the launch of a concerted worldwide effort to save the lives of more than 16 million women and children.
At a special UN event designed by Rabin Martin, the Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health was launched and stakeholders pledged more than $40 billion in new resources. We facilitated multi-stakeholder consultations on the Global Strategy and served as the secretariat for the initiative to enhance communication and collaboration among partners, and led the UN’s Advocacy Working Group to gather commitments from all sectors of society. Additionally, in collaboration with key partners, we formulated a strategic communications plan in support of the Global Strategy. We also designed, managed and coordinated Every Woman, Every Child, a high-level event at the UN Millennium Development Goals Summit – and now the name of a multi-year campaign – as well as events for digital media where commitments were announced and momentum was built to sustain the initiative.
