Chief elf Maura Reilly packs up more than 200 toys for children affected by HIV.
For many of us, the holidays are an important time to reflect on the past year and focus on what’s most important in our lives – family, friends and community. In this spirit, the Rabin Martin team rallied together to support GMHC by hosting a toy drive and holiday dinner for parents and children affected by HIV/AIDS.
Rabin Martin Associate Maura Reilly, with help from team members across the firm, organized the toy drive, collecting more than 200 gifts for children and teens. Once the toys were collected, a dedicated group of Rabin Martin team members spent their lunch hours and evenings wrapping, organizing and packing the donated presents. For those on our staff who couldn’t make it home this Christmas, it was a welcome opportunity to come together to wrap presents and spread a little joy to the families of our neighbors who need a little help this year. In addition to our makeshift Santa’s workshop, those of us who know our way around the kitchen also baked an assortment of homemade cookies, pies and other desserts for the event.
Rabin Martin team members Terri Jackson, Meg Jones, Ryan Worthington, Tenley Ghan and Maura Reilly distributed the toys at GMHC’s Annual Holiday Dinner on December 20 at the organization’s headquarters in Chelsea. The event, which Rabin Martin co-hosted with GMHC’s Women’s Care, Prevention and Support Services (WCPSS) team, served hot meals, tasty treats and holiday cheer to 200 men, women and children reached by the organization’s services. With soulful holiday music playing in the background, children bounced from table to table at activity stations set up throughout the banquet hall. Following the meal, the children were invited to select their toys. It was a genuine pleasure to watch their faces light up as they unwrapped their gifts. Rabin Martin received the unexpected honor of being the first for-profit firm to be inducted into WCPSS’ “Hall of Angels.”
The event was also an opportunity for one of our own staff members to reconnect with former colleagues and clients. “Having served as Managing Director of GMHC’s clinical programs and evaluation, I know the difference that these donations make in tough times,” said Terri Jackson, Vice President at Rabin Martin. “I’m so proud to be part of a team of individuals who step-up to help our community.”
Rabin Martin would like to thank all the elves who helped make this event a success, and to wish everyone a happy, healthy New Year.
